"Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style."
The longer I do this photography thing, the more styles change.
I've always been drawn to a documentary approach though, because of the realness that's captured.
A while back I took the plunge and upgraded to a new camera and lens, and I'm in love with this new combo. Yes, I do see a difference technically in the photos and how the images are captured. Yes I see that it does better in low light and produces sharper images.
But one thing a new camera and lens won't do... it won't change who I am and why I do what I do. I'm in the business of recording memories, especially my family's. I take photos each and every day of our "sacred mundane" because it's real and its us and it's never going to be the same us than it was today. I want to remember.
My shooting style may not be "technically correct." I may not shoot with the correct aperture or get as much in my frame as I'm "supposed" to for documentary style... but I kind of don't really care too much. Because it's me. And it's my style.
And like the quote says, "nothing you really like is ever out of style."
